- FOR ACUTE SITUATIONS
- These are some commonly needed remedies that are good to keep in the house:
- Apis mellifica ~ for swellings that are hot and red, and feel better with cool applications.
- Arnica montana ~ for muscular trauma and bruising.
- Aconitum napellus ~ for states of fear or sequela of fear. Also a common remedy for scratches to the cornea of the eye.
- Arsenicum album ~ for many types of complaints (commonly nausea and diarrhea, also colds and flu), when the patient is very cold, thirsty for small sips of water, and wants someone to be near to take care of them.
- Belladonna ~ for sudden onset of high fever or intense pain, especially when accompanied by dilated pupils and radiating head or body heat.
- Bellis perennis ~ for deep trauma and bruising to organs of abdominal or pelvic cavity.
- Bryonia ~ for pains of any kind (musculo-skeletal, headache, nausea, pneumonia) that are worse with the slightest movement.
- Hypericum ~ for injuries to nerves or nerve-rich areas (fingertips, teeth, tongue, eyes, spine [especially coccyx]). Sharp pains which shoot up the nerve trunk.
- Ledum palustre ~ for puncture wounds (including but not limited to animal bites or stings, vaccination needle puncture)
- Nux vomica ~ for colds, also for nausea or diarrhea, especially with cramping. Also for the ill effects of over-indulgence in food or alcohol. The emotional state of the patient is one of irritability, wanting to be left alone.
- Pulsatilla nigricans ~for colds with yellow discharges; also for digestive upsets from eating sweets or fats, especially when the patient is thirstless and wants someone to stay near them and pet or stroke them.
- Rhus toxicodendron ~ for joint problems/stiffness worse when first beginning to move, better when warmed up, and worse again after over-use. Worse with cold and damp.
- Silicea ~ to extrude foreign bodies from under the skin (including abscesses). Also for acute problems (especially convulsions) after vaccinations.
- HOW TO GIVE THESE REMEDIES
- Dissolve 2 pellets under the tongue (or, in the case of animals, dissolve in a tiny amount of milk and allow them to drink it.) If no response at all to the first dose, it may be repeated up to 2 times, 30 minutes to 1 hour apart. After 3 doses, if there has been no response whatsoever, then it is likely to be the wrong remedy. At any point that response occurs (i.e., the picture changes in any way), then stop and watch for the pattern to settle.
